Cultural Warriors
When Tandem Theatre were in their infancy as part of Future Fires they were also fortunate enough to be part of Cultural Warriors. A programme developed by People’s Palace Project encouraging national and international collaboration, this project culminated in a delegation visit to Afro Reggae and their work in the favelas in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
On the delegation we visited the Afro Reggae centre and saw it’s amazing high quality arts activities in the surrounding favelas. A community recovering from a ten year drug gang battle and still swarming with armed drug dealers.
Degase
We also visited Degase, a young offenders institute in Rio de Janeiro. A centre which supported the rehabilitation of it’s young offenders yet their young people remained vulnerable, especially on release. Tandem Theatre wishes to revisit this place and work with their young people again in the future.
